Denise began working with the unit as a victim/volunteer in March of 2007. As luck would have it, the breeder of two of the other unit dogs (Bella and Tomoe) had puppies available later that year. Eva, born in May of 2007, came to live with Denise and her family at the age of seven weeks. Denise is working on her SAR-TECH II certification and, with the help of the members of the unit, training Eva in wilderness air scent. Though a lifelong dog owner, she is constantly surprised by what the SAR dogs can do. Training time outdoors with Eva and the other teams is a welcome change from her job in human resources. Having survived raising two boys, Denise is ready to meet the challenge of training herself and her dog for search and rescue.
