Meet Kathy Newman and her partner Bandit. Kathy has been doing K-9 search and rescue since 1981 when her unit Minnesota Search and Rescue Dog Association was formed. She has been on over 300 searches and has trained 7 dogs of her own and helped train many dogs in her unit. She has been training director since 1985 and has taught at NASAR, CSAR and other conferences around the country. She has trained and handled dogs in trailing, air-scent area search, land and water cadaver, evidence and basic disaster. Kathy is a SAR-Tech II; a state licensed First Responder and has been a police reserve for 23 years. Her current partner is a Belgian Malinois she purchased in Sept. of 2003 at 7 weeks of age. He replaced her last partner who died suddenly in Aug of 2003. Bandit is certified in Advanced Trailing and NASAR Trailing III as well as Land Cadaver. Bandit is a high drive dog who likes to work, on his off time he enjoys playing with his cat friends.
